About us

Hi! My name is Matt Peterson and I have been working around boats most of my life; as a commercial fisherman trolling for salmon off the Oregon coast, as a member of the maintenance team at the Olympic Circle Sailing Club in Berkeley, CA and as a sailboat and powerboat owner. In 1994 I formed FastBottoms Hull Diving (now part of Peterson Marine Services Inc.) In the ensuing twenty eight years my team and I have performed over 42,000 hull cleanings as well as anode replacements, propeller removals and installations, object retrievals, rudder removals, boat unsinkings, dock flotation projects etc., etc. Owning my own business has been very rewarding and I like what I do very much. Further, I think I am very good at it. In an industry rife with unskilled, inexperienced and unknowledgeable service providers, I take my job seriously and approach it as a profession. I believe this is why FastBottoms Hull Diving is amongst the most well- known and respected names in the hull cleaning industry here in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am also a member of the California Professional Divers Association and sit on its Board of Directors. The CPDA is a non- profit mutual benefit corporation registered in California that actively promotes in-water hull cleaning Best Management Practices and the use of non-copper and biocide-free anti fouling coatings. I have been trained and certified in the use of these BMPs (the CPDA BMPs are the only ones recognized by the State of California) and use them every day to ensure that I minimize my impact on the environment when performing in-water hull cleaning activities and maximize the performance and longevity of my customer’s anti fouling paint. Even if you do not choose to use FastBottoms for your underwater needs, you should ask your diver if he or she is a member of the California Professional Divers Association.
